The idea of Confluencing Shores is referring to the fact the we are all result of the exchanges between different thoughts, influences, historical events and cultural backgrounds. Southern Spain is a primary example of these exchanges. No one is an island. In this exhibition I try to bring together different approaches of art making to synchronize them into one coherent thought. In my work, I used both paper and ceramics as the vehicle for expression. These two materials are steep in history as the nexus of economic exchanges between the east and west. And both were originally developed in China. In my paper work, I use the form of paper cut, a traditional Chinese process call Jianzhi, and fire drawings. It is the delicate dance between the knife's edge and heat of fire my work in this exhibition were created.
